Biography
Sam started the law firm in 2016 and now proudly practices with his father. Sam comes from a family that is dedicated to public service. His grandfather, L.H. “Cotton” Ivy, along with his father, longtime trial attorney and former Chief of the Jackson U.S. attorney’s office, Victor L. Ivy, have instilled these values into Sam. His wife, Jennifer, also an attorney, is assistant general counsel for the Tennessee Department of Transportation. Sam was mentored by renowned West Tennessee trial attorney J. Houston Gordon.
Sam has been trained and has extensive experience in handling the most serious catastrophic personal injury cases, including those unfortunate cases that have resulted in wrongful death. He has litigated to resolution a variety of cases ranging from complex product liability/defective product cases, serious automobile accident cases, to a capital murder case. He has recovered millions of dollars in settlements and verdicts for his injured clients.
Prior to opening the firm, Sam worked as an associate attorney for The Law Office of J. Houston Gordon, PLLC, externed for federal judges James D. Todd (U.S. District Court) and Bernice B. Donald (6th Circuit Court of Appeals), and worked for Pentecost & Glenn, PLLC. Sam obtained his law degree from the University of Memphis Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law, where he was selected by his peers to give the Commencement address for his graduating class. While in law school, he was also a member of Law Review, volumes 43 and 44. An honor roll student, Sam also obtained an undergraduate business degree from University of Tennessee at Knoxville. He is a member of the Howell Edmunds Jackson Inn of Court, Tennessee Bar Association, Tennessee Trial Lawyers’ Association, National Academy of Personal Injury Attorneys, and Jackson-Madison County Bar Association. He has been selected as a Top 40 under 40 Civil Plaintiffs’ attorney by the National Trial Lawyers Association for the last 5 years in a row and a top 10 trucking trial lawyer for 2023. He was also selected as a Mid-South Rising Star by Super Lawyers for 2023.
When not practicing law, Sam enjoys spending time with family and friends, including his two young daughters who keep the family very busy. He also enjoys hunting, fishing, golfing, and spending time at the Tennessee River. Sam lives in Jackson with his wife and daughters.
